1790 Samuel Hopkins received the first US patent (signed by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson) for making potash.
1817 John Copper invented the rotary pump.
1826 Samuel Morey invented the first paddle wheel steamer. Morey is also credited with inventing the internal combustion engine.
1848 Gardner S. Blodgett invented the cast iron cooking oven.
1977 Jake Burton Carpenter began making snowboards in Londonderry, VT. Now Snowboarding is an international sport.
